Rodney Long
ABOUT
Rodney is a promising young teaching artist as a private instructor, classroom educator and choral conductor. In 2011 Rodney received a music education scholarship from the Georgia Music Educators' Association for his potential success as a music educator. From 2012-2017 he was the choral director at Watkins Mill High School in Montgomery County, Maryland where is choirs consistently earned superior ratings at the county and state choral assessments. The WMHS Chamber Singers were invited to perform at the White House in 2015 and to sing the National Anthem at the Washington Wizards basketball game in 2016. Furthermore, his students were accepted into the Maryland All-State Choruses and have been featured as soloists with these groups.
In addition to his work in the classroom, Rodney served on the board of the Maryland Choral Educators' Association.
Since 2011 Rodney has had an active private voice and piano studio. He is currently a teaching graduate assistant at Indiana University with the music performing group, the IU Soul Revue serving as the vocal coach.
It is his philosophy that anyone can make progress as a musician with dedication and fitting instruction. In his work as a teacher, he tailors his approaches to learning to fit the musical needs and learning style of his students, no matter the style or genre. His encouraging & energetic spirit coupled with his enthusiasm for sharing music, inspires his students to be life-long lovers and supporters of music all while fostering their technical growth. He holds a state of Maryland teaching license, Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Voice, Master of Music in Voice & Graduate Certificate in Vocology.
